Qld: Prisoner still on the run after escaping in leg irons
BRISBANE, Dec 22 AAP - A 21-year-old man was still on the run today after escaping
police custody by speeding off in a police car while wearing handcuffs and leg irons.
Kirk Michael Clayton, who appeared in Brisbane's District Court on Thursday on breaking
and entering charges, was in a police car showing detectives where the break-ins had occurred
in the northside suburb of Ascot when he complained of feeling sick.
The detectives stopped the car and got out but Clayton was believed to have locked
the doors from inside and sped off while still shackled hand and foot.
The vehicle was found dumped at Balmoral, on Brisbane's southside, at 4pm (AEST).
A police spokesman said there had been a report that a man, still wearing hand and
ankle cuffs had jumped out of a vehicle driven by another person on Bowen Bridge Road
at Bowen Hills, in Brisbane's inner north, about an hour later.
He was described as 175 cm tall, with blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin, slight build
and walking with a limp.
Police want to hear from anyone knowing his whereabouts.
