Communications, EPA Bills Draw Clinton Veto Threat

WASHINGTON Accusing the Republican Congress of taking its leadfrom extremists and special interests, President Clinton threatenedto veto two House bills - one that would gut federal environmentallaws and another that would deregulate the telecommunicationsindustry.

"It is clear that this Congress is on the wrong track," thepresident said at a morning news conference. Environmental bills arebeing written by "lobbyists for the polluters," he charged.
