NSW: Man accused of firing gun in parking dispute to face court
SYDNEY, April 23 AAP - A man who allegedly fired a gun in a northern NSW cafe afterfighting with a patron over a parking complaint will face court today.
Police said a 31-year-old West Australian man entered a cafe in Byron Bay shortly after7pm (AEST) last Wednesday and fought about a parking issue with the patron.
After punches were exchanged, the man left the eatery in Bangalow Road.
A short time later he returned brandishing a rifle and threatened staff and customersbefore discharging a round into the ceiling and leaving.
Byron Bay police yesterday spotted a car in the area which matched the descriptiongiven by witnesses.
Police then arrested the 31-year-old man who directed them to nearby bushland, wherea rifle was recovered.
The man was charged with assault with intent to commit a serious indictable offence,discharging a firearm with intent, possession of an unregistered firearm, unauthoriseduse of a firearm, and not keeping a firearm safe.
He was refused bail and will face Lismore Local Court later today.
